Automatic Rope Lubrication System - Light Duty Drum Winder (ARL- LDD)
This system is suitable for ropes up to 36mm in diameter and a pumping distance not exceeding 30 metres. It includes a power pack, PLC control system with control panel, motion sensors mounted at the overlay sheave, a 50 litre oil reservoir, and two spray heads for a double drum winder - mounted just below the sheaves.
Positioning of the Power Pack must be within the 30 metre pumping distance, and can either be mounted in the Winder Room, on the Bank or in close proximity to the spray heads, bearing in mind that easy access will be required for re-filling of the oil reservoirs at all times.
Optional Extras.
Additional spray heads for a multi-rope winder.
Additional reservoirs depending on the winder configuration.
Compressed air rope cleaning modules.
A manual Drum Spray, either integral or additional depending on the position of the Power Pack.
Automatic Rope Lubrication System – Heavy Duty Drum Winder (ARL- HDD)

This system is suitable for ropes from 36mm to 60mm in diameter and a pumping distance not exceeding 60 metres. It includes a power pack, PLC control system with control panel, motion sensors mounted at the overlay sheave, a 100 litre oil reservoir, and two spray heads for a double drum winder - mounted just below the sheaves.
Positioning of the Power Pack must be within the 60 metre pumping distance, and can either be mounted in the Winder Room, on the Bank or in close proximity to the spray heads, bearing in mind that easy access will be required for re-filling of the oil reservoirs at all times.
Optional Extras.
Additional spray heads for a multi-rope winder.
Additional reservoirs depending on the winder configuration.

  This system is suitable for ropes from 36mm to 60mm in diameter and a pumping distance not exceeding 60 metres. It includes a power pack, PLC control system with control panel, motion sensors mounted at the winder drum or overlay sheave, a 100 litre oil reservoir, and four spray heads for a two rope system - mounted just below the drum/ sheaves, two per rope on either side of the drum/ sheave.
Positioning of the Power Pack must be within the 60 metre pumping distance, and can either be mounted in the Winder Room, on the Bank or in close proximity to the spray heads, bearing in mind that easy access will be required for re-filling of the oil reservoirs at all times.

Automatic Rope Lubrication System – Ship to Shore Hoist Ropes (ARL- SSH)
This system is suitable for hoist and travel ropes normally on Ship to Shore (Wharf) crane up to 36mm in diameter and a pumping distance not exceeding 20 metres. It includes a power pack, PLC control system with control panel, motion sensors mounted at one of the hoist sheaves, a 50 litre oil reservoir, and eight spray heads for a four rope system - mounted on each of the rope sheaves as shown in the adjacent picture below.
The Power Pack is normally positioned on one side of the transverse travel trolley. Oil is only applied to the ropes when in motion.

Automatic Rope Lubrication System – Ship to Shore Boom & Drum (ARL- SSB)

This system is an extension to the Hoist Rope System, which has two functions, viz. to

  • automatically lubricate the boom ropes when lifted or lowered and
  • to manually lubricate the ropes on the hoist, boom and auxiliary rope drums that cannot be lubricated from the automatic systems.

The Automatic system is suitable for ropes up to 36mm in diameter and a pumping distance not exceeding 60 metres. It includes a power pack, PLC control system with control panel, motion sensors mounted on the side of one of the hoisting drums, a 50 litre oil reservoir, and four spray heads for a two rope system - mounted on four of the rope sheaves on top of the boom tower.

The Manual System utilises the Power Pack pump system and is equipped with a hose and a suitable Spray Lance that automatically starts when the trigger is actuated. These sections of ropes must be lubricated regularly.
The Power Pack is suitably positioned in the winder room to allow easy access to the controls and the reservoir for top-up purposes.

Automatic Rope Lubrication System – Light Duty Trawler Winch (ARL- LDW)
 

Corrosion normally takes place when the rope is wet and allowed to dry in the presence of oxygen. On a typical winch, the wet rope is reeled onto the drum and salt water filters down to the dead layers and penetrates the rope. After a time, corrosion sets in, normally starting from within the core, up to a point where the rope fails.
Past experience has proven that ropes lubricated with oil last considerably longer than un-lubricated ropes or even when they are covered with a sealing compound, such as grease. Please refer to the attached “Thin Film Wire Rope Lubrication” document.
The basis of the Programme is to protect the complete rope and the lubrication system provides the following two functions, viz.

  1. Automatic application of the main body of rope and
  2. Manual lubrication of the dead turns on the drum
Automatic Rope Lubrication System – Heavy Duty Deck Winch (ARL- HDW)
 
  1. Automatic Application
    In this case, the lubricant is applied automatically by using spray nozzles that are mounted just below the sheave facilitating maximum lubrication to the rope as it is hoisted out of the water. To economize, the lubricant is only applied when the rope is hoisted and in motion. Besides having a much higher affinity to metal than water, the oil also has the ability to penetrate the rope, thereby displacing the water and preventing oxygen to react and causing corrosion.
    The control logics of the system provides a lubrication interval adjustment from every hoisting cycle up to a suitable practical interval, depending on the surrounding conditions, i.e. always ensuring that the rope is covered with the protective oil.
  2. Manual Application
    Initially and as a regular rope maintenance function, the lubricating oil must be manually applied to the rope that never or very seldom leaves the drum by spraying the rope on the drum while it is turning. This should be done on a regular basis to ensure that water does not settle on and within the lower turns of the rope and thereby causing corrosion.
Automatic Rope Lubrication System – RTG (ARL- RTG)
In the Design Stages. Currently these ropes are lubricated manually.

Manual Rope Lubricators

Manual Rope Lubrication System – Stationary Lance Lubricator (MRL- SLL)
  The Stationary Rope Lubricator is a dedicated lubricator, which consists of a light duty power pack complete with a single spray lance and is normally mounted in a suitable position to facilitate lubrication of the “dead turns” of a hoist winding system.
Manual Rope Lubrication System – Portable Lance Lubricator (MRL- PLL)


The Portable Rope Lubricator consists of a heavy duty power pack and is a versatile manual applicator. The standard system includes a 1,200mm spray lance and applicator gun. Additional manual rope spray heads are available on request.

Manual Rope Lubricator Spray Head (MRL- SH1)

The Manual Rope Lubricator Spray Head utilizes a scissor clamping system to centralize the spray head to the rope and is normally fitted with either 3 or 4 spray nozzles. It is advisable that ropes are only lubricated in the downward direction.

CWRM offer a Rental Payment facility over 36, 48 and 60-month term.

At the end of the term, the asset is passed onto the company by one additional monthly payment.
Where applicable, estimated monthly repayments are included in every quotation submitted.
